Camwater restores full pumping capacity of 180,000 m³/day to Yaoundé
This is a major relief for the millions of households in the political capital. Camwater has just reached a decisive milestone by successfully completing the reassembly, installation, and commissioning of the fifth and final 1,250-horsepower pump at the Akomnyada pumping station. This strategic operation, completed on August 6, 2026, allows the infrastructure to become fully operational again and breathes new life into access to drinking water in Yaoundé.
This large-scale project is directly in line with the directives of the Director General of Camwater, Dr. Blaise Moussa. He has made the rehabilitation of critical water production and transfer infrastructure a cornerstone of the company’s
modernization. The Akomnyada station is the lifeblood of Yaoundé’s water supply, and its reliable operation directly impacts the volume of water delivered to the treatment plants.
To achieve this spectacular result, a highly technical reconditioning was carried out with masterful skill. Before its deployment on site, the engine underwent a complete overhaul at the SNEF Cameroon workshop. Experts there performed the crucial replacement of the FAG 29438 bearing, a complete overhaul of the electrical insulation, meticulous repair of the transmission sleeve, and rigorous testing to guarantee impeccable reliability.
On-site, the teams’ mobilization was total and exemplary. Coordinated by the Works and Maintenance Department, the technical teams of the Akomnyada Special Production Sector and their partners orchestrated the assembly, alignment, and connection phases with meticulous precision. Successful testing conducted upon completion of the projects validated the equipment’s absolute conformity under its actual operating conditions.
Thanks to this technical feat, the station has regained its impressive nominal capacity of 180,000 m³ of water per day for Yaoundé. This figure demonstrates a spectacular leap forward in securing the water supply, improving the continuity of public service, and the company’s ability to respond effectively to rapidly growing urban demand.
Through this historic milestone, Camwater demonstrates the effectiveness of a proactive preventive and corrective maintenance policy. By strengthening the resilience of its water system, the company reaffirms its commitment to providing the population with sustainable access to a quality water resource, in accordance with the directives of the Head of State, Paul Biya.
