In order to encourage early diagnosis and treatment, the Bertoua Regional Hospital is running a two-week campaign from July 13 to 25, 2026, offering free specialist consultations and discounted investigations and care for people living with musculoskeletal disorders.

For many people, pain in the back, knees, shoulders or hips becomes part of everyday life. Rather than seeking medical advice, they often rely on painkillers, traditional remedies or simply learn to live with the discomfort. Unfortunately, what begins as an occasional ache can evolve into a chronic condition that limits movement, affects work performance and, in severe cases, results in long-term disability.

Musculoskeletal disorders, which include diseases affecting bones, joints and muscles, represent one of the leading causes of disability worldwide. They are particularly common among people whose occupations involve repetitive movements, prolonged standing, heavy lifting or long hours in a seated position. Farmers, construction workers, drivers, teachers, office employees and traders are among those most exposed to these conditions.

Recognizing the need for earlier intervention, the Bertoua Regional Hospital has launched a campaign aimed at improving access to specialized care. Throughout the campaign, patients suffering from back pain, arthritis, limb deformities, osteoarthritis and other rheumatic diseases will benefit from free consultations with

specialists in rheumatology, orthopedics and traumatology, as well as physiotherapy and psychomotor rehabilitation professionals.

In addition to free consultations, participants will receive a 50 percent reduction on a range of diagnostic tests and treatments, including laboratory examinations, medical imaging such as X-rays, ultrasound scans and CT scans, joint infiltrations, rehabilitation sessions, therapeutic massage and bone and joint surgery when indicated. These incentives are expected to encourage patients who have delayed seeking care because of financial constraints.

Health professionals stress that early diagnosis remains one of the most effective ways to prevent complications. Many musculoskeletal disorders can be managed successfully when detected in their early stages through medication, rehabilitation, lifestyle changes or corrective procedures. Delaying treatment, however, often increases the risk of permanent joint damage, chronic pain and reduced independence.

Beyond providing medical services, the campaign also serves as a reminder that persistent pain should never be considered normal. Whether it affects a young worker, an elderly person or someone recovering from an injury, ongoing bone, joint or muscle pain deserves professional attention. By bringing specialized services closer to the population, the Bertoua Regional Hospital hopes to help more people regain mobility, preserve their ability to work and prevent avoidable disability through timely diagnosis and appropriate treatment.
