The Regional Hospital Center held its first-ever Management Committee meeting on Friday, August 14, 2026, chaired by Professor Haman Djalo. The meeting focused on improving patient care and modernizing hospital management.

The Maroua Regional Hospital Center (CHR) has taken another step in its journey towards continuous improvement of the quality of care. On Friday, August 14, 2026, the institution held its very first Management Committee meeting, chaired by Professor Haman Djalo. This inaugural session allowed the various members to examine the main challenges facing the hospital and, above all, the strategies to be implemented to better meet the needs of the population.

At the heart of the discussions, one priority clearly emerged: bringing healthcare closer to the population. In a region where healthcare needs remain significant, access to health services is a major challenge. The Committee therefore emphasized the need to strengthen the healthcare offering and to make the Maroua Regional Hospital Center (CHR) a facility more focused on the actual needs of patients.

This commitment to closer collaboration extends beyond simply providing services. It also encompasses improvements in reception, guidance, care, and the overall quality of services offered to users. For the members of the Management Committee, every action undertaken within the hospital must contribute to a better patient experience and greater public satisfaction.

The issue of improving services was therefore a major focus of the discussions. The Maroua Regional Hospital (CHR) intends to continue its efforts to strengthen its performance and offer a healthcare environment that better meets quality standards. This initiative encompasses both the organization of services and the way patients are supported throughout their stay at the hospital.

Beyond aspects directly related to patient care, the Committee also paid particular

attention to management. Developing more effective hospital governance appears to be one of the essential levers for achieving the set objectives. Better organization, increased team empowerment, and more rigorous monitoring of activities should improve the overall functioning of the institution.

This approach reflects an evolution in the concept of hospital management. The objective is no longer simply to have infrastructure and staff, but to ensure that all available resources are mobilized effectively for the benefit of the patient. Management thus becomes a tool to improve the quality of care and patient satisfaction.

The first Management Committee meeting also provided an opportunity to commend the initiatives already undertaken by the administration of the Maroua Regional Hospital Center (CHR). The efforts made in recent weeks regarding ISO certification particularly caught the attention of the members. According to the guidelines established during the meeting, these certifications represent an encouraging sign in the continuous improvement process initiated by the institution.

For hospital administration, however, these advances should not be seen as an end in themselves. Rather, they should serve as a foundation for consolidating a culture of quality within the institution. The challenge now lies in embedding best practices over the long term and ensuring that the desired standards are concretely reflected in the daily lives of patients and staff.

“It’s a young institution, but it’s already ISO certified.”

Haman Djalo, Chairman of the Management Committee of the Maroua Regional Hospital

“I wouldn’t say it’s just an assessment of the documents. As I told you earlier, this is the first meeting of our referral hospital management committee.

This is a hospital which, in its operational phase, is only two years old, since it started operating in October 2024. We have therefore had a full year in terms of presenting the documents.

These documents were well-presented, well-maintained, and easy to understand. However, as no work is ever perfect, the committee made recommendations and observations that will be incorporated into the final document.

As I mentioned earlier, it’s important to understand that this is a young institution, but it’s already ISO certified. For us, the experts’ opinion is unprecedented. This is the first Category 2 hospital, and I’d also like to point out that it’s also the first Category 3 hospital in Maroua.

The link between these two structures is that they are headed by the same leader. This certainly explains, in part, the results we are observing.

When we talk about ISO certification, it means that things are done in accordance with standards, particularly in terms of services, reception and support for patients.

We can only be pleased to have such a facility in the city and the region. It is also important that the public is well-informed, given that it is a young institution, about all the services it offers.

The team is truly oriented, for the next three years, towards a vision which consists of maintaining this level of performance and improving the few points which are not yet totally at this level.

In reality, this is the first management committee meeting. Therefore, there is no basis for comparison yet to determine whether performance is improving or declining.

For now, we have documents that we have validated and that we can consider as the reference for the year 2025. We will come back at the end of 2026 to see how things have evolved: has the activity increased in volume? Has the establishment grown in strength?

I certainly hope so, considering all the qualifications this hospital possesses.

I must also admit that I am pleasantly surprised. We are dealing with a kind of self-managed system, without external funding. Approximately 75% of the staff are internal to the institution. They really need to be encouraged to continue in this direction.

I believe we can help make this hospital a true center of excellence, also serving the sub-region. It already receives patients from Chad, Nigeria, and other regions of Cameroon.”

“The discussion was essentially about validating the initial institutional project.”

Dr. Gérard Fetse, Director of the Maroua Regional Hospital Center

“This is the very first session of the Management Committee of the Regional Hospital Center (CHR) of Maroua. During this session, the main topic was to validate the first institutional project, which constitutes a strategic project for the next three years.

The Management Committee also welcomed the fact that the CHR is now an ISO 9001 version 2015 certified hospital. The establishment is thus committed to a quality management approach, and the validated strategic project is fully in line with this dynamic.

We plan to present the Management Committee with all the financial statements for 2026 by the end of the year. This will allow for a more reliable assessment of the evolution of the hospital’s activities.

An exponential increase in activity has already been observed since the opening of the CHR. We therefore believe that the hospital will be able to reach its cruising speed in the very near future.”
