After seven years of an untenable water shortage, the Nkolndom-Carrière district in Yaoundé has once again had access to drinking water.
Seven years. An eternity for hundreds of households who, day after day, had to cope with chronic shortages, making resourcefulness their only means of survival. This daily nightmare ended on the night of September 18, 2026, following a large-scale intervention carried out swiftly by the Cameroon Water Utilities Corporation (CAMWATER). Driven by a fierce determination to restore public service where hope had faded, the long-established drinking water operator reversed the situation with a remarkably effective strategic rehabilitation project.
The beginnings of this water renewal took place in the Fouda district, the epicenter of the network reinforcement operations. It is from this vital artery that the technical teams of the Yaoundé-Agglomeration Regional Division, under the leadership of the Deputy Technical Director and the Head of the Northern Sector, have woven the fabric of a new future for Nkolndom. Carried out tirelessly day and night, these optimization works strictly adhere to the high directives of the Director General of CAMWATER, Dr. Blaise Moussa, whose hands-on management continues to bear tangible fruit in the capital.
As soon as the connections at the Fouda intersection were completed, the
magic of engineering worked its wonders. The first valves opened, releasing a powerful flow, signaling the immediate and long-awaited return of drinking water to the properties. Even better, the pressure tests carried out immediately afterward proved highly conclusive. Contrary to the legitimate fears of the residents, the flow rate is perfectly stable, even at the top of the hill, a topographical feature historically known for its resistance to gravity and its water insularity. The homes perched on the heights, once doomed to asphyxiation, now benefit from an equitable and continuous water supply.
Aware that this return to normalcy is only a first step, the humble giant of the drinking water industry doesn’t intend to stop there. To consolidate this achievement and definitively put an end to makeshift boreholes, CAMWATER announces the imminent launch, starting next week, of a large-scale campaign offering simplified and promotional connections in the area. This initiative has been welcomed by local residents, who are finally seeing the government’s commitment materialize in their daily lives.
In Nkolndom-Carrière, the mood today is one of celebration and relief. This technical success, beyond the mere logistical feat, has breathed new life into the community and reconciled long-disillusioned residents with the promises of inclusive urban development. The water is flowing again, and with it, an entire neighborhood is regaining its smile and its path to modernity.
