As part of its hepatitis awareness campaign, the Garoua General Hospital organised a sports walk open to its staff and the public on Saturday, July 25, 2026 at the Parcours Vita.
The sun hadn’t even risen in the sky when the Garoua Vita Trail had already taken on the colors of prevention. From 6:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 25, 2026, a strong turnout was evident. Men, women, young people, and healthcare workers gathered for a brisk walk organized by the Garoua General Hospital (CHR). This initiative is part of a series of activities implemented by this healthcare institution as part of its hepatitis awareness campaign.
Wearing white T-shirts specially made for the occasion, the participants took to the course. These garments bore a simple yet evocative message: « Let’s move together for a healthy liver. » The slogan, accompanied by the logo of Garoua General Hospital, encapsulates the spirit of this activity. It serves as a reminder that disease prevention also involves adopting healthy behaviors.
Beyond its sporting aspect, this walk had a strong educational dimension. Through this mobilization, the Garoua General Hospital aims to draw greater public attention to hepatitis, diseases that can develop silently and lead to serious complications if they are not detected and treated in time.
For Dr. Charifa Njoya, the campaign coordinator, the brisk walk is primarily a means of raising awareness. « We wanted to combine sport with hepatitis prevention, » she explains. Through this initiative, the Garoua General Hospital (HGG) aims to move beyond the traditional framework of health campaigns and engage with the public in a friendly and accessible environment.
The walk thus reinforces the other activities conducted since the launch of the hepatitis awareness campaign at Garoua General Hospital. Under the leadership of the Director General, Professor Hamadou Bâ, the health institution is increasing its efforts to inform the public about the dangers of these diseases and encourage them to get tested. The campaign includes awareness and screening activities. At the hospital, people continue to be welcomed to benefit from the services provided as part of this initiative.
Following the walk, the campaign continues within the hospital walls. It will culminate this Wednesday, July 29, 2026, with a symposium dedicated to hepatitis. This meeting will provide an opportunity for further discussion about these diseases.
