At the end of its support mission to Cameroon, a World Bank delegation was received in audience on Friday, October 2, 2026, by the Minister of Public Health. The delegation commended the progress of the Health Security Programme (HeSP) project, while also noting some areas requiring attention.

The mission, led by Nicolas Rosemberg, World Bank Health Project Manager for Cameroon, lasted one week. It focused on supporting the implementation of the Health-led Public Health Program (HeSP), which came into effect in Cameroon on August 24, 2026. At the end of their visit, the delegation expressed their satisfaction to the Minister of Public Health. In general, they noted a marked improvement in the project’s implementation at several levels: performance, financial management, and environmental and social safeguards. The World Bank also commended the Ministry of Public Health for the recruitment process for the Project Management Unit (PMU).

However, the mission identified some potential obstacles that could slow down the project. These include the availability of the expertise required for the program and the signing, by the Prime Minister, of the decree that will make the project operational. This signature will allow the corresponding accounts to be opened and the procurement committee to be formally established.

Dr. Malachie Manaouda, surrounded by several members of the Project Management Unit (PMU) and his close collaborators, reassured his visitors. He indicated that every effort would be made to overcome the aforementioned obstacles and ensure the project’s efficient implementation. The Minister of Public Health also commended the shared commitment of the various parties to working for the well-being of Cameroonians.

As a reminder, HeSP is a health security program in West and Central Africa, funded by the World Bank, designed to help countries better cope with health emergencies.
