Following the fire that affected part of the Bamenda Regional Hospital, the Cameroonian government through the Ministry of Public Health announced on July 3, 2026 the immediate deployment of emergency measures to deal with this disaster and fully reassure local populations.

On the direct instructions of the Minister of Public Health, a specialized technical team was immediately dispatched to the site. The primary objective of this expert mission is to conduct a thorough and comprehensive assessment of the damage. The findings of this inspection will allow for the development of appropriate measures to undertake a coherent, sustainable reconstruction perfectly tailored to the needs of this leading institution.

Under the High Authority of the President of the Republic, His Excellency Paul Biya, all necessary measures are currently being taken by the state apparatus. The absolute objective is to restore, as quickly as possible, quality healthcare services for the benefit of the population. The Ministry assures that concrete actions are already underway to guarantee the complete continuity of patient care and to minimize the disruption caused by this incident.

Faced with this challenge, the Minister of Public Health solemnly calls upon the population to remain calm and trust in the institutions. The authorities recommend prioritizing coordination, active solidarity, and unity of action during this transition period. The government strongly reaffirms its firm commitment to rebuilding this hospital so that it can continue to fully fulfill its public service mission.
