Faced with the health risks linked to climate change, ONACC is exploring new avenues of cooperation with Cameroonian diplomacy.

The National Observatory on Climate Change (ONACC) welcomed André Magnus Ekoumou, Cameroon’s ambassador to France, to Yaoundé for a courtesy visit. The meeting focused on the institution’s activities and prospects for cooperation on climate issues.

The stakes are high for public health. Climate change can exacerbate certain health risks, particularly through extreme heat, floods, droughts, and changes in conditions favorable to the transmission of certain diseases.

During the visit, the ambassador was briefed on the missions of the ONACC, its climate monitoring tools, and its system for producing scientific information. This data provides support for anticipating climate phenomena likely to affect populations and health infrastructure.

The cooperation envisioned through climate diplomacy could thus contribute to strengthening Cameroon’s resilience to the effects of climate change. The objective is, in particular, to better integrate climate data, risk anticipation, and public policy decisions to protect the population.
